DGene worked closely with Alibaba on its ambitious “AR project to provide commercial Light Field modelling for Alibaba’s merchant partners. Buy+ utilizes AR technology to bring consumers a futuristic shopping experience like no other; an exemplification of the concept of experiential retail. With Buy+, the expression, “what you see is what you get” is set to become reality. On Buy+, items for sale are displayed as interactive 3D holograms, and users will have access to all relevant information, from product ratings and comments to exact specifications. In addition, users will be able to interact with these products by giving commands through various gestures and movements.
Taobao Buy+ illustrates the immense potential of AR to transform the retail sector. Through AR, retailers can inculcate a new relationship between consumer and product, one characterised by interaction. By incorporating AR, consumers will be able to interact with their desired products like never before, potentially opening the door to an entirely new world of e-commerce possibilities.

Case Study: Pippa’s Pan (Entertainment)
DGene has cooperated extensively with the American performing arts and modelling communities to provide them with innovative three-dimensional Light Field technology for film production. The VR movie Pippa’s Pan – one of the first of its kind – was filmed with the help of DGene’s light field capture technology. The film was a success, and DGene’s technology was integral in reproducing the most realistic characters and scenes, fully capturing the characters’ emotional expressions. Pippa’s Pan was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, marking the beginning of a new era in film and entertainment – one featuring novel AR/VR technology.
Case Study: Opera Show (Entertainment)
DGene’s light field acquisition system proved crucial in Beijing Opera actor Lan Tian’s AR-assisted opera performance, marking another breakthrough in the performing arts by integrating DGene’s technology into the age-old traditional art of Chinese opera.
